I'll start with three applications I know well from Windows and was happy to welcome on my MX-16 setup: Also, less known is of course highly subjective. Disclaimers: I am a Windows guy and have just started toddling around the Linux universe. I know this is not a very specific brief so if this deemed to be too frivolous for this subforum, please move it to Chat. There are of course the heavyweights everyone knows about (Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice.) but the vast repositories of the internet hold many other, lesser known apps which may perhaps even have some advantages over their well-known brethren.
This post specifically deals with software that is platform-agnostic, ie will run the same under both Linux and Windows (not necessarily open source though: if a programme does exactly what I need I do not insist on having access to the source).
